Miss "not quite with it"

I try to stay current with technology. I learned to text when it was harder to do (no virtual keyboard on my old phone) and knew (or guessed at) many of the shortcut letters...LOL for "laughing out loud", LMAO, for "laughing my ass off", WTF for "what the ****", (this is a PG blog, people!)

The reason I mention this is because at Dick's Last Resort (see the previous post) my "hat" had something on it about a MILF. It wasn't the first time I had seen that "word", but I didn't remember what it meant. A waiter pointed out a guy at the bar who wanted me to know that he agreed with what the hat said. Politely and naively, I responded "Oh, thank you!" It was later that one of the young girls let me know what it stood for. I won't clue you in here...as I said, this is a PG blog. I will say that I suppose it was meant as a compliment, nasty though it was.

Showers/parties - August

I'm pretty sure we had a good time in San Antonio at the Bachelorette Party. Not that I drank so much I can't remember, just that it's been awhile and I can't remember. I'll do the best I can.

Carolyn, Wendy, Daphne & I rode to San Antonio together. We dropped Daphne off at the hotel where she, Robin and all the others were staying. Wendy, Carolyn & I then checked into our hotel and headed to the Riverwalk for a little shopping.

We spent more time shopping than we should have and we had to really rush to spruce up and walk to the other hotel to meet up with everyone. We were supposed to be there early enough to help decorate Robin's veil, but our shopping had gone on too long.

Our first destination was Dick's Last Resort. I don't really know how to describe it. It's a restaurant where the waitstaff can't wait for you to say something they can make fun of. Then they write a retort on a large cylinder of paper that's twisted at the top and rolled at the bottom. Then pop it on the head of the person they're insulting. They look like big condoms. Quite a few of us were wearing the paper condoms by the time we left. An example of one of the retorts: Carolyn had a question about the menu, so her condom said, "50% blonde, 100% dumb!"

The waitstaff were rushing around...taking care to bump into the patrons, knock off our "hats" or push our hats all the way down to our necks...at every opportunity.

After dinner we walked to Howl at the Moon, a great piano bar that is a "must visit" place for bachelorettes. Wendy, Carolyn, Daphne & I stayed for about an hour, then walked back to the hotels to call it a night.

The youngsters made quite a night of it and finished it off with breakfast at Denny's in the wee hours. A good time was had by all!

Lingerie Shower

Wendy, Carolyn and our niece KellyWaters were the hostesses for the Lingerie Shower which took place at Carolyn's house. All of the young people arrived in dresses they had worn as bridesmaids. If the idea was to look hideous, they failed miserably. Bridesmaids have benefited from improved offerings from designers. Now, when the bride says, "You'll be able to wear it again," it's not just an empty phrase--unless the bride is a real stinker.

We enjoyed appetizers and super good margaritas and strawberry margaritas made in the margarita machine Wendy & Kelly and Carolyn & Brent gave Robin & Chad. Then a meal of Chicken Spaghetti, salad & garlic bread was served.

After a couple of obligatory games, the gifts were opened and admired and then it was time for the group of girls to move on to the serious partying.

The bridal photography sessions

I used my phone to take photos of Glenn taking photos of Robin during the bridal portrait session. Here are a few of them.




Robin also wanted special wedding photographs taken on the farm, so in November she got into the wedding gown again and Chad put on a suit and we all went down to a pecan grove close to the river where Glenn spent another hour or so with them. Once again, I took photos of Glenn taking photos. Unfortunately, in the few photos I took you can't see the pecan trees or the river.

Showers - July

There were two showers in July; a miscellaneous shower in the morning and a couples shower in the evening. Showers had to be grouped in order to accommodate Chad's busy fishing tournament and cook-off schedule. The Miscellaneous Shower was held at the home of Barbara Priesmeyer. Numerous other women also hosted. Barbara's home is just beautiful and we were so happy she wanted to do this for Robin. Unfortunately, I don't seem to have a photo of Barbara with Robin. But, here are a few photos taken at the shower.

 

Barbara, along with the other hostesses presented Robin with an electric skillet and two sets of flatware. A lovely table was set including a two-tiered cake...a vision of things to come... made by the cake lady, hostess Annette Prochaska. The guests arrived and enjoyed all the tasty treats. Robin and Chad received many wonderful gifts!

The Couples' Shower was held at the home of Chad's older sister Alicia and her husband Slade Stary. At that shower, Robin and Chad received a walking tractor sprinkler and a ladder in addition to gifts from the guests. Tables were set out in the backyard under the trees. It was very nice...especially for July! Here are a few photos. Naturally, I'm not in any of them!

Crawfish Boil

Once the date, September 12, 2009, was set, the parties could begin. The first one was in April... a Crawfish Boil at the Manske Farm, near, but not at, Bonus, Texas. Geez, I've only written 3 sentences and already have more commas and dots than the law allows!
It has been a tradition among my closest friends to have a party when one of our children celebrate a momentous event. And, of course we welcome other friends of the family who want to join us in hosting the party. Initially, we gave each of them a party upon graduating from high school. Many of those parties were also located at Bonus.

And then, when they started marching down the aisle, we progressed to this type of party. We never could decide what to call this party...sometimes we called it a cocktail party, other times it was an engagement party. But, whatever it was called, and wherever it was given, it was always beautiful and very special.

The guests enjoyed visiting and partaking of the tasty appetizers prepared by the hosts and hostesses. It was a beautiful day (at least as far as I can remember,) and we had a wonderful time, as you will be able to see if you look at the pictures I've included here.

The hosts and hostesses gave Robin and Chad a card table and chairs. Robin and Chad gave the hosts and hostesses monogrammed canvas coolers.

Bibs on, we proceeded to eat the wonderfully prepared meal of crawfish, corn, and potatoes. Of course, there was plenty of beer to help wash it all down.

I think you can tell that Robin really likes crawfish; two plates! And I'm pretty sure she went back for more. She gets that from me!
